As part of the International Sculpture Center Conference held in Pittsburg, PA, in 2001, sculptors George Beasley and Helen Denerly were commissioned to do an iron casting performance transmitted live from Clashnettie, Scotland by the BBC. I worked as one of their assistants on the project along with the staff of the Scottish Sculpture Workshop. Over the course of one month we built a site-specific stone cupola furnace and ultimately poured a non-functional bridge in-place over the Deskry Water. Several of the local farmers were involved in the project and were even tasked to help pour the iron on the night of the event. The bridge still stands.
